Instructions for Aliases

Aliases: Click on the Alias button towards the top of the screen. A window will appear. Click on Add at the left of the box. Another window will appear asking for the name of the alias. Enter the name of the alias and press ok. Click on the alias name you just made on left and then on the right side is the editor pane. You should see a blinking cursor. Then type or paste in the string for the alias on the right side. Make sure you press Save when you are done adding an alias!! To play the alias, you would type in the following: /aliasname nick

A couple of hints regarding aliases. I make the names for my aliases as small as possible; and if possible, I number them. For example, for an alias that says hello to nick, I would name it h1. H stands for hello. The next hello alias I would make would be called h2. For bar or line aliases use b1, b2 or l1, l2. For goodnight aliases use n1, n2, etc. You can see my drift. By keeping the names small and relatively simple, it is easier to type in and also to remember. Remember, you have to name your alias first before you can paste in the newly copied material. Once you have copied your alias, make SURE to press the Save button or all will be lost.

You can also play a sound with an alias. To do this place a seperator, or pipe, (uppercase of the \ on the keyboard) on the last line of the alias. Type in the following:---> | /sound # 3hellos.wav This will play the sound of the 3hellos.wav to the room you are in.

You can use either the $snick or $1 command for a nick's name in aliases. The difference comes in when you play them. Let me show you a couple of aliases so you can follow along with what I am saying.

Aliases with $snick command.

8,1.»º8©º«.1........8 Hello $snick 1........8,1.»º8©º«. 9,1.»º9©º«.1........9 Hello $snick 1........9.»º9©º«. 11,1.»º11©º«.1........11 Hello $snick 1........11.»º11©º«. 13,1.»º13©º«.1........13 Hello $snick 1........13.»º13©º«

As you can see from the above alias, the black squares and numbers are the coding for color. In the middle of the alias is the Hello $snick. When you copy a popup from the screen, you will take out the nick and enter the $snick or $1 for the command for the nick. As you notice, there is a blank space on either side of the $snick. This is a must or the alias will not play properly.

To play an alias with the $snick command, highlight the nick's name on the right side of the screen in the nicklist area. Once the nick's name is highlighted, type in this:---> /h1 and then press the enter key. The popup will play with the nick's name you have highlighted.

Aliases with the $1 command.

Listed below is an alias with the $1 command.

0,0jlv12,1 ª ¥ ª ¥ ª ¥ ª ¥ ª 12 $1 12,1 ª ¥ ª ¥ ª ¥ ª ¥ ª 0,0jlv4,1 © ¥ © ¥ © ¥ © ¥ © 4 $1 4,1 © ¥ © ¥ © ¥ © ¥ © 0,0jlv3,1 § ¥ § ¥ § ¥ § ¥ § 3 $1 3,1 § ¥ § ¥ § ¥ § ¥ § 0,0jlv0,1 ¨ ¥ ¨ ¥ ¨ ¥ ¨ ¥ ¨ 0 $1 0,1 ¨ ¥ ¨ ¥ ¨ ¥ ¨ ¥ ¨

Once again you see the black boxes and the commands for colors and for the decorations for the popup. Notice in the middle the $1 command for the nick. Again, there is a space on either side of the $1 or the popup will not play properly.

To play this alias, (which I have named as b1 because it is a bar (or line) alias), you would type in the following:---> /b1 nickname Then press the Enter key. This will play the alias with the nick you have typed in. You have to type the nick's name after the name of the alias in order for the alias to print the nick in the middle.

I have made available an Instruction and Sample Zip files that you can download.  Included are the instructions that I have on this site and also a sampling of some aliases and popups that you can copy and paste into your program.  To download these files, click on Downloads to get to the page.  Open the files in notepad and follow the instructions in the file.
