Instructions for Sounds

Pirch has a fantastic Media or Sound Player. Best of all it doesn't take too much to set it up. Just follow the step by step instructions and you will be listening to your favorite wavs and mids in no time.

The best way to set up your sounds is to have a separate directory or file folder for your sounds. This way you can keep them separate and if by chance you do crash your pirch program, you will not lose your sounds. Once you have made the file folder for your sounds we can now proceed to set up your pirch program prefs. Go to the prefs button and click on the Media or Sound Tab. Put a check in the enable box and then put in the sound path for the default sound path line. For example, for my sound path would be C:\Sounds. Next go to the DCC tab in the prefs and check the Use the drag and drop method and then make sure that the Default download and upload paths are set for your sound path.

Once this has been done, the rest is very easy. Press on the Media button and a window will open. Click on the down arrow on the right side of the media window. You will see that it will say uninitialized. It also should list your sounds folder. To initialize the box, left click on the down arrow and click on the all sounds. You should then see your wavs and mids appear in the box on the right side. Now you are all set up to hear your wavs and mids.

For Pirch98 users, you have a bit different way of doing your sounds. You still will put in your sound path for the Media tab in Preferences. You will leave the DCC send paths as they are. Instead you will program into your Download extension Map. What this does is to make Pirch recognize the extension of the file that is being sent to you and direct it to go where you want it to. To do this...Press on Options on the menu bar, then click on Download Extension Map. You will see a window open that has several sections to it. The two sections that we will be dealing with are file extentions and directory. Click on the add or + icon. Then type in   mid;wav   (make sure you leave no spaces and you use the semicolon) for the extension line. Then type in your sound path for the directory or use the arrow to find the directory. In my case it would be C:\Sounds. You can also while you are there, direct your pics that you receive to go to a separate directory. so that entry would be-   jpg;tif;gif;bmp     for the extensions, and then put in the directory that you want them to go to. I have set up a separate file folder for net pics, so my entry would be   C:\pictures\netpics      When you have completed your entries, make sure you press the save button to close the download extension map window. The rest of the process is the same as listed above for initializing the player and for playing sounds.

I have made available an Instruction and Sample Zip file that you can download.  Included are the instructions that I have on this site and also a sampling of some aliases and popups that you can copy and paste into your program.  To download these files, click on Download to get to the page.  Open the files in notepad and follow the instructions in the file.
